The Mountains of Hope (MOH) Quality of Life Subcommittee is excited to share a new web-based resource for Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) cancer patients and their caregivers, cancerhelpwv.org. This resource was created in partnership with Connecting Champions, an organization that asks pediatric cancer patients the question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” and coordinates mentorships between patients and mentors in their chosen career field. The resource aims to serve the AYA population, who require special considerations regarding cancer care due to their unique developmental stage, educational needs, and specialized health concerns such as fertility preservation. Individuals can complete an assessment, based on Canteen’s Psychosocial Assessment tool for AYA cancer patients in Australia, to help identify the best resources to address their highest self-identified needs and help them communicate more effectively with their healthcare providers. The site launched on November 10th after months of collaborative work, and we are eager to expand it to serve even more people, including metastatic cancer patients and other high-risk health populations. Cancer patients and their caregivers in West Virginia are invited to explore the website here. If you have questions or would like to contribute resources, please reach out to Coalition Manager Morgan Lounsbury (mountainsofhopewv@gmail.com).
